4/4 violin by Langonet for Hill, Copy of "Tuscan Strad", 1889

4/4 violin by Langonet for Hill, Copy of "Tuscan Strad", 1889

Charles François Langonet was identified by J.B. Vuillaume as a 'future Stradivarius' whilst still an apprentice at Mirecourt. This violin of 1889 is a very fine copy of the Tuscan Stradivari that was acquired by W.E. Hill and Sons in the preceeding year. It was intended to be compared alongside the original, and represents the very finest standards of violin making in England during this period. The tonal characteristics of this perfectly preserved violin are of a woody and intensely brilliant quality.
