16.5" viola by Wilkinson c.1950

16.5" viola by Wilkinson c.1950

John Wilkinson was a violinist-turned maker who worked for J.&A. Beare Ltd in London for four decades. After a war injury sustained in the Battle of the Somme in 1918, Wilkinson lost much of the use of his left wrist, but through the use of a T-shaped splint he was able to continue making. This viola features a bright, bold, and carrying sound. It is finished with deep orange varnish and is in excellent condition.
