Go Cello!

A new national festival for aspiring young cellists (up to 18 yrs)

Dates: 13th-15th April
Venue: Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance + Concerts at Cutty Sark, St Alfege and the National Maritime Museum

Principal Sponsor: Stringers of Edinburgh & London

Go Cello! is a national celebration of the cello for young cellists grades 1-8+ taking place in the exciting maritime locale of Greenwich. Historic treasures like the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum nearby, along with our world-class faculty, will inspire our journey through three days of performances and a range of classes exploring repertoire, technique, improvisation and more.
Go Cello! will culminate in a festive concert by the Senior and Junior Cello Ensembles and South East Camerata on the Museum’s famous Great Map, exploring our seafaring heritage through three world premieres inspired by the Museum’s collections. We welcome you, your family and friends to join us for a once-in-a-lifetime event celebrating the instrument we all love to play!
We also offer Teaching the Young Cellist event which will include presentations on teaching beginners, movement and learning, arranging and composing, new discoveries about the brain, and much more. Open to 30 teachers and student trainee teachers. Saturday 14th April 2018.

Born in Vils, Austria, Tomaso Eberle flourished as a maker in Naples from 1750 until his death in 1792. Eberle drew major influences from the Gagliano school, evident within the outline of his instruments. His violins are finished with Neapolitan style golden varnish.

This magnificent violin by Tomaso Eberle is a true testament of his skilled craftsmanship. Formerly owned by a renowned English soloist, it has been featured on a number of commercial recordings. The violin produces a warm, clear tone with plentiful projection, balanced across all registers.

- Tomaso Eberle fecit. / Neap. 1784

- Length of back: 354mm

- String playing length: 324mm
