Maureen Stringer: Director

maureenwebsiteMaureen studied Cello at the Royal College of Music, London, and the Chigiana in Sienna.

 

She subsequently became a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Baroque Ensemble.

 

After 20 years of professional playing and teaching, she founded Stringers in 1992.

 
Cecily McMahon: Manager

cecilywebsite2016Cecily holds a BMus in Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, as well as her Licentiate and Associate Music Awards on both violin and viola with Distinction.

 

Cecily has toured internationally as an orchestral player, performing under the baton of celebrated conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy. She has also worked as a teacher in Sydney, Hong Kong and London.

 

In February 2011, Cecily took on the role of Violin Specialist at Stringers alongside her work as a professional string player. She was appointed a Manager in April 2015.

 
Ian Byrne Brito: Manager

ianwebsiteupdatedIan graduated as a performer and teacher from The Hague Royal Conservatory and went on to complete a masters at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied with James Sleigh.

 

Since graduating, Ian has developed a successful international performing career and has won several prestigious awards and scholarships.

 

Ian took on the role of Viola Specialist at Stringers in 2013, alongside his performing and teaching. He was appointed a Manager in April 2015.

 
Georgia Morrison: Violin & Viola Manager

Georgia WebsiteGeorgia studied viola at the Royal Academy of Music in London, under the tutelage of James Sleigh.

 

She subsequently spent two years performing 'strock' music with a London based ensemble, and working in orchestral administration for Oxford Philomusica.

 

Georgia joined Stringers within the violin & viola department in December 2014.

 
Ester Garcia Adame: Violin & Viola Specialist

EsterEster studied violin and musicology at the RCSM in Madrid, after which she developed her career as a violin teacher.

 

She joined Stringers within the violin and viola department in March 2015.

 
Helen Pugh: Cello Specialist

helen websiteHelen read music at Durham University, during which time she studied cello with Sue Lowe and Deborah Thorne.

 

She subsequently gained her PGCE, also at Durham. Helen holds a Licentiate Performance Diploma and Associate Performance Diploma on cello with Distinction.

 

Helen joined Stringers within the cello department in June 2016. 

 
Colin Cross: Workshop Manager

colincrosswebsiteColin graduated from the internationally-acclaimed Newark School of Violin Making with Distinction in 1989. Since then, he has developed a successful career as a maker and restorer of fine instruments.

 

He continues to make violins, violas and cellos for musicians all around the world. Colin joined the workshop of Stringers in January 2011.

 
John Sydenham: Luthier

John website editedJohn won ‘Young Engineer for Great Britain’ in 1979, and later gained a degree in mechanical engineering. 

 

He went on to study as a Luthier in London and the USA, subsequently working at Hamilton Caswell Violins in Bristol.

As a cellist and classical guitarist himself, John uses his unique craftsmanship and engineering skills to tailor his work to individual players' needs.

 
John joined the workshop of Stringers London in March 2017.
 
Antoni Ruschil: Luthier

Antoni website editedAntoni studied at the Newark School of Violin Making, and went on to apprentice making and restoring stringed instruments in workshops across Europe. Starting in Germany at the workshop of Roger Hargrave, he then went on to Cyprus to work with Stepan Soultanian and to Italy to apprentice with the Vettori family violin makers. He has also worked with Dextra Musica in Norway, the Fondazione Stradivari and Museo Civico in Cremona, Italy. 

 
Antoni joined the workshop of Stringers London in June 2017. 
 
Piotr Kulcenty: Luthier

Piotr 1 1Piotr started his violin making education at a young age, building his first violin at the age of 15. 

 

He graduated from the Academy of Music in Poznan, Poland, with a Masters degree in instrument making in 2014. He then worked for four years in Rome and in Switzerland for Atelier Claude Lebet as a violin maker and restorer. Piotr has built over thirty violins, taking inspiration from the great Cremonese instruments that he has had the opportunity to see and work with.

Piotr joined the workshop of Stringers London in February 2018.
