Maureen Stringer: Director

Maureen StringerMaureen studied Cello at the Royal college of Music, London, and the Chigiana in Sienna.


She subsequently became a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Baroque Ensemble.


After 20 years of professional playing and teaching, she founded Stringers in 1992.

Ellie Douglas: Manager

Ellie DouglasEllie read music at New College, Oxford and subsequently went on to work in orchestral management with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Glyndebourne Opera.


She spent two years as the Administrative Director of the Opera House Orchestra in Santiage, Chile.


Ellie was appointed Manager of Stringers London in March 2009, with her principal instrument as cello. She will be on maternity leave until early 2016.




Ian Byrne Brito: Manager (Viola Specialist)

Ian resizedIan was born in the UK but brought up in Spain. He graduated as a performer and teacher from The Hague Royal Conservatory and went on to complete a masters at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied with James Sleigh.


Since graduating, Ian has developed a successful international performing career and has won several prestigious awards and scholarships.


Ian took on the role of Viola Specialist at Stringers in 2013, alongside his performing and teaching. He was appointed a Manager in April 2015.


Cecily McMahon: Manager (Violin Specialist)

cecily_mcmahon_resizedCecily holds a BMus in Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, as well as her Licentiate and Associate Music Awards on both violin and viola with Distinction.


Cecily has toured internationally as an orchestral player, performing under the baton of celebrated conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy. She has also worked as a teacher in Sydney, Hong Kong and London.


In February 2011, Cecily took on the role of Violin Specialist at Stringers, alongside her work as a professional string player. She was appointed a Manager in April 2015.

Katri Patel: Cello Specialist

katripatelKatri grew up in Finland and studied the cello at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. She subsequently studied in London with Raphael Wallfisch.


Having established herself as a cellist in Finland, Katri moved to the UK in 1998 to take up a position with the Royal National Scottish Orchestra.


In March 2012, Katri was appointed Cello Specialist at Stringers London, and continues to teach the cello.


Georgia Morrison: Violin & Viola Department Assistant

Georgia WebsiteGeorgia studied viola at the Royal Academy of Music in London, under the tutelage of James Sleigh.


She subsequently spent two years performing 'strock' music with a London based ensemble, as well as working in orchestral administration for Oxford Philomusica.


Georgia joined Stringers in London full-time in December 2014.



Ester Garcia Adame: Education Department (Violin & Viola Assistant)

EsterEster studied violin and musicology at the RCSM in Madrid, after which she developed her career as a violin teacher.


She joined Stringers part-time within the violin department in March 2015.

Piaf Knight: Education Department (Cello Assistant)

piafknightPiaf read music for her undergraduate degree at the University of Hull, followed by a masters degree in Musicology.


She joined Stringers in London within the cello department in March 2015.


Stephen Wilkinson: Administration

stephenwilkinsonStephen studied for his undergraduate music degree at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and for a masters in musicology at Somerville College, Oxford.


He joined Stringers in London within the Sales and IT departments in March 2015, alongside continuing his PhD in studio and computer composition at Goldsmiths College in London.


Colin Cross: Senior Luthier (Workshop Manager)

colincrossColin graduated from the internationally-acclaimed Newark School of Violin Making with Distinction in 1989. Since then, he has developed a successful career as a maker and restorer of fine instruments.


He continues to make violins, violas and cellos for musicians all around the world, alongside his role as Senior Luthier and Workshop Manager at Stringers in London, a position he took on in January 2013.
