Violin by Giovanni Gaida, Ivrea, 1900

Giovanni Gaida (1862-1939) began working in France before moving to London from 1890, then returning to Ivrea 1895-1904 where his sons Silvio and Cesare were born. Back in London he worked for the Stainer Manufacturing Co., and then for F. W. Chanot before establishing his own workshop in Castle Street, Long Acre. His work is very fine, based on classical models with rich shaded varnish.
